The Department of New Media and Communication Administration was established in 2010, originally as the Department of Communications Management, in response to converging trends in the digital industry, changes in the industry's market structure, and the transformation of media operations. In particular, the development of new media increases the demand for professionals who possess communication, information, and managerial skills to work in the field. In order to keep up with market needs, the Graduate School of Communications Management merged with the Department of Digital Information Communication to form a new department, which then transformed into the present-day Department of New Media and Communication Administration.
The Department of New Media and Communication Administration aims to cultivate professionals who can develop a global vision and can manage digital information and communications. In terms of course planning, students principally focus on basic professional subjects in their first and second years of study, and begin to systematically study modules on 'digital media' and 'media management' in their third year to prepare for careers in e-communication.
In addition, the Department also places considerable emphasis on the students' practical skills by providing them with opportunities to present their work via the campus media and by collaborating with other university departments to strengthen its students' skills. Moreover, the Department holds various seminars and provides opportunities for students to work in the industry to foster academic-industry collaboration and cultivate eight core competencies.
Students who graduate from the department can choose to pursue graduate study or earn certificates in fields such as marketing, web page design, multi-media design, advertising planning, etc. to become qualified professionals. In addition, students can serve as managers in media company departments, such as human resources, financial planning, news editing and gathering, multi-media planning, and marketing.

Set to align with trends of digital new media development, the departmental education goals and features are to cultivate students with professional knowledge and capacities of cloud information management, digital content production, data-flow analysis, social marketing operations, public relations activity planning, human resources and financial management. Our goal is to cultivate students capable of theoretical thinking and practical applications in digital new media, communication and management who are talented professionals with broad worldview in this new era of communication management.
1. The Only Department Established in Taiwan Based on New Media
Currently, the communication departments in Taiwan maintain focus on the traditional media regarding curriculum and faculty members; only a small percentage of them have new media courses. This curriculum plan is largely not aligned with trends in societal development. Ming Chuan University Department of New Media and Communication Administration is the only unit on top of this trend, defining the department based on new media to be aligned with the latest trends in employment.
2. The Department with the Most Valuable Curriculum
We invite excellent full-time faculty members and industry practitioners to teach students to apply diverse software, including: Premiere, Indesign, Photoshop, Animator, Dreamweaver, Muse, Illustrator, Miner, After Effect, Sketchup, Web mining, 3D MAYA, Tableau and Gephi, and assist students in earning international certificates to enhance their employability.

Students who complete the four years of study in the New Media and Communication Administration (NMCA) Department are guaranteed to cultivate capacity in digital image processing, editing, e-book editing, elementary animation production, homepage production, image processing, data mining, front-end web content design and back-end web management, animation visual effects operation and character mining, 3D animation processing and advanced data analysis. With these digital professional skills and the courses in communication content production, financial management, e-business and marketing planning, students will be nurtured as talents for the media industry to be willing to hire them at higher salaries.

Our students have the opportunity to participate in industry internships through on-campus internships and academia-industry collaborations to apply what they have learned in the workplace. Moreover, the Department has already signed academia-industry collaborations with many firms to offer opportunities for students to apply what they have learned and get ready to join the workforce, in areas such as homepage production, APP platform design, community management, back-end data flow management and e-business operations
In order to promote students’ learning outcomes, the department emphasizes students’ application abilities; students’ works can be presented on the digital multimedia experimental platform. Furthermore, by combining relevant knowledge in information, multimedia design and communication, the Department has established many cross-disciplinary Focused Course Programs to provide multi-faceted learning opportunities that assist students in preparing for employment. Special topics lectures held by the Department provide academia-industry collaboration opportunities to promote students to integrate the six core competencies: Professional abilities in new media communication, Practical abilities in new media communication, Extensive fundamental knowledge, Collaborative abilities, Decision-making abilities in new media organization management and International perspective and foreign language abilities.

Department of New Media and Communication Administration defines the department based on cultivating talents in this new era of new media. In order to promote students’ learning outcomes, the department emphasizes students’ application abilities; students’ works can be presented on the digital multimedia experimental platform. Furthermore, in order to promote students’ relevant knowledge and professional competency in information, multimedia design and communication, the Department has established many cross-disciplinary Focused Course Programs to provide multi-faceted learning opportunities and extend students’ worldview. Special topics lectures are held by the Department in line with curriculum content, where experts are invited from the industries to introduce new knowledge and employment trends. We continue to provide more and more academia-industry collaboration opportunities through the collaboration with industries that assist students in preparing for employment.
In order to enhance student’s practical abilities, the Department has established Digital Communication Center and Virtual Studio to promote students’ Digital Content Production System Competency, Digital Video Content System Competency, Digital Video Content Marketing Competency and Digital Content Data Flow Analysis Competency. The curriculum is continually updated based on the above competencies to assist students in learning the knowledge and skills of new media age, which include digital media trends, cloud information management, data analysis ability, digital content production, cloud curation, social marketing operations, public relations planning, human resources and financial management analysis. These are incorporated into the official curriculum to cultivate faculty members’ and students’ research and practical competency through earning certificates and the combined input from industry experts and academia-industry collaborations.
Our graduates have the opportunity for further study at related graduate schools and to earn professional certificates in Communication Marketing, Website Design, Media Design and Advertising Design. After graduation, our students are qualified for positions such as media human resources administrator, media financial planning administrator, media editing and interviewing administrator, multimedia promotion planner, website multimedia designer, marketing planner, public relationship activity planner, activity designer, advertising planner, graphic designer, packaging designer, exhibition designer, commercial photographer, digital editor and computer animation artist.
According to the department's mission and goals, courses are designed with the aim to cultivate students with abilities of research, media management, inter-disciplinary research, and foreign languages. In order to achieve these goals, we have faculty members from communication, management and information technology backgrounds. In addition, our department also invites professionals from media firms in the dual teacher program to elevate students’ practical skills.
The Department of New Media and Communication Administration is committed to conduct communications management research and academia-industry collaboration projects to nurture professionals for different industrial needs. In recent years, the Department of New Media and Communication Administration has pursued collaborations with universities in Beijing, Shanghai, Hubei, Hunan, Xiamen, and Hebei, regularly holding academic conferences, study visits and other exchange activities to build cooperative relationships.
