LETTER FROM DEPARTMENT CHAIR CHEN, CHIA-HUI
Why You Should Join Us — A Letter to Aspiring Media Professionals
First of all, we warmly welcome you—someone who is passionate about a future in media and communication—to join the big family of the Department of New Media and Communication Administration at Ming Chuan University!
We would like to express our gratitude to former Dean Dr. Yen-Yuan Ni, who in 2015 redefined and repositioned the Department of Communication Management, officially renaming it to the Department of New Media and Communication Administration. The impressive performance of our recent alumni in the job market is strong evidence that this new positioning and the professional training under the "new media" focus have been absolutely the right direction. As long as you engage in solid and consistent learning during your time here, we are confident that you will grow into an outstanding new media professional.
Each School of Communication in Taiwan’s universities has its own unique features. Here at Ming Chuan, we take pride in being the first in Taiwan to establish “new media development” as our core identity. Our department plays a pivotal role in leading the transformation of the school toward a new media-centered approach. Compared to other communication programs in Taiwan, Ming Chuan's School of Communication places the greatest emphasis on practical training. You will become a cross-disciplinary talent with expertise in both new media and communication management.
In terms of faculty, in addition to our dedicated full-time professors, you will also learn from numerous industry professionals who bring the latest industry trends and essential skills directly into the classroom. We also provide ample opportunities to participate in industry-academia collaboration projects and to intern with media companies. During your senior year, you may take our Media Internship Course, which helps you transition seamlessly into the workforce—so you won’t need to worry about employment after graduation.
Our curriculum evolves in step with the latest developments in communication technologies. Over your four years of study, by following the carefully designed program, you will acquire:
• Digital video production and editing skills
• Project planning and execution abilities
• Web backend and data analysis capabilities
• Independent writing and reporting competence
• Oral communication and public speaking skills
• Digital information literacy
• Organizational leadership and teamwork capabilities
• Language expression and communication proficiency
These are all professional competencies highly valued in today’s and tomorrow’s job markets. We have meticulously crafted a high-quality curriculum with high practical value, and we sincerely hope that students who join our department will study diligently and apply themselves fully. With your effort, you are certain to become a top talent not only in the media industry but also in various other sectors.
On behalf of the Department of New Media and Communication Administration, we once again welcome you. We hope you’ll quickly feel at home in our department and that your time at Ming Chuan University becomes one of the most memorable and exciting chapters of your life.
